Review of The Grand (2007) by Ian D — 04 May 2008
This mostly improvised comedy (quite literally: according to the director about 90 percent of the script was from the actors' ad-libs) ranks up there with the Christopher Guest comedies just due to the sheer laugh ratio.
The players here: David Cross, Woody Harrelson and Chris Parnell among others are just over-the-top and endearing but also realistic. Also, these guys are very, very funny people. The big problem is that the film is too unstructured, due to the whole "improvised" nature- even "Spinal Tap" had a script.
But I liked what I saw here.
