Review of The Grand (2007) by Randy M — 21 Jul 2008
This is one of those subtle comedies that if it hits your niche, you love it and if it doesn't, you're bored. I really enjoyed this movie and especially Woody Harrelson as "One Eyed" Jack Faro who has that quiet, reserved confidence in himself even though he's been a complete loser his whole life.
The film itself is set up in a semi-documentary style, which helps with the development of the large cast of characters whose chemistry is quite good. Dennis Farina's character "Deuce" is that shady old bastard that is so politically incorrect, it's quite laughable and fun to watch.
Everyone brought something to the table in this one, though I did hate Gabe Caplain's father character. Woody fans should like this one as he's quietly funny throughout. Better than Rounders in my book as it pokes good fun at televised Poker.
