Review of The Gene Generation (2007) by Carl N — 18 Aug 2010
I was first drawn to this movie because it stars the beautiful Bai Ling. She plays an assassin called Michelle, who kills DNA Hackers in a futuristic Cyberpunk world. She must battle DNA hackers and loan sharks all while trying to keep her younger Jackie, out of trouble.
What is quite an interesting story is let down by the over use of really cheap CGI FX and some extremely poor acting. When it comes down to it the film just relies on Bai Ling squeezing into to various tight PVC outfits.
The fight scenes are poor and the only real attempt at characterization is done with the brother Jackie. Sadly he is such a total douche bag its hard to believe that Michelle would put up with his crap.
I wasnt expecting blade runner but I at least wanted to be entertained. Not almost bored to tears. If you like Bai Ling, watch for the outfits and nudity. If not dont waste your time.
