Review of The Gene Generation (2007) by Philip D — 22 Feb 2009
I thought overall this was a pretty cool movie. It tries to follow in the footsteps of the classic cyberpunk future movies like Blade Runner and The Matrix, but it just didn't have any truly unique elements to put it toward the top for futuristic movies.
The story just kind of sucked. Bai Ling is ultra sexy though as the lethal assassin Michelle who is hired to kill DNA Hackers. Most of the cgi and special effects were rather horrible, but there were some pretty good scenes here and there.
The acting for the most part wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. This was actually a comic-book to movie translation which didn't turn out too bad. It is credited as being based on a comic book series called 'The DNA Hacker Chronicles'.
So, despite being pretty low-budget, The Gene Generation is worth a weekend rental, I don't know about a purchase, but it's pretty cool. I recommend at least checking it out once.
