Review of The Fountain (1988) by Matt R — 09 May 2011
The Fountain is a movie that will have you digging and digging to find the meaning behind it. This is art in it's purest form in film. When you go to an art gallery, there's rarely, if ever, a caption beneath the painting telling you what the painting symbolizes, or what it stands for, or the message it is supposed to convey to the viewer.
It leaves us to figure it out on our own, and that is what art is supposed to be. And that is exactly what The Fountain does.
