Review of The Eyes of My Mother (2016) by Walter P — 09 Dec 2016
A movie made for the deeply disturbed "The Eyes of My Mother" is a black and white horror movie that plays out like a drama would. It's very carefully crafted and you can tell that there isn't a single scene that wasn't meticulously made to be perfect.
The themes of sadness and loneliness really become apparent as the film progresses as it's told in three parts. It's a call back to the Ingmar Bergman style with some slasher elements, and the sound editing is some of the best of the year.
You don't actually see much of the violence on screen, but you can hear it in such detail that leaves almost nothing to the imagination. Kika Magalhaes is terrific as Francisca, pulling off the personality of seemingly normal, but still insane to near perfection.
It's a movie that's not for everyone, but for those who dare sit through this fairly short, but gruesome film. It's certainly worth it.
