Review of The Comedy (2012) by Travis O — 22 Feb 2013
"The Comedy" is the most misunderstood film of 2012. I loved it. At least 11 people walked out of it tonight. It's one of those films that you either get or you don't get. The thing is.
.. you can't go into it thinking it's a comedy, because it's not entirely funny, and that's the point! Rick Alverson creates some of the shittiest people to ever headline a movie: wealthy, yuppie hipsters who are disconnected from the world and have no direction to their lives.
The movie is a 90 minute critique on the culture, and does its best to offend as many people as possible to prove that point. It succeeded to offend me a bit, but I understood the purpose behind it. Most don't, and while I wish they did, I also can't completely blame them.
"The Comedy" is Arpke Approved, but isn't for everyone.
