Review of The Boxer (1997) by Julian G — 06 Feb 2008
Daniel-Day Lewis is extraordinary in every role he plays and this film is no exception. Jim Sheridan's third film with Lewis explores the violence in Ireland that occurs between the Catholics and the Protestants and portrays how it has destroyed the country's people while also combining the political atmosphere with the love story between a man who was once involved in the IRA and who is released to find his early love.
The movie itself is well-made and gives a great mood by all of its actors who are superb. Overall, a very compelling drama. One of the best films I've seen in the last decade.
