Before the days of "The Castle" there was this 1990 film featuring a youthful Ben Mendelsohn and Claudia Karvan. Shy teenage 'every-boy' Danny Clark wants to impress the girl of his dreams so he tells her that he has a Jaguar motor car when he asks her out.
She agrees to go out with him and now he has to buy the jag and thus begins the roller-coaster plot. Nostalgic yes, but only barely a comedy.
