Review of The Aggression Scale (2012) by Michael S — 10 Apr 2015
The basic concept of this movie (the innocuous cartoon violence of "Home Alone" made realistic) is a fascinating one, especially to me, as I feel "Home Alone" turned the tide of children's films and made "clever children massacring adults" a staple of almost every movie coming out of Hollywood aimed at the kiddies.
It was like an epidemic. There's less of it now (thank God) but a movie like this is attempting to illustrate what a diseased and just plain WRONG idea this is to be planting in children's heads.
Their ambition and effort is admirable. Unfortunately, this movie just isn't as good as it sounds on paper. The low budget look, the poor acting (especially from Owen's sister), and the lack of characterization for our anti-heroic protagonist just work against this film and bog it down.
But what a daring attempt at making a statement. That alone awards it 2 stars.
