Review of Terror Firmer (1999) by Marc B — 27 May 2007
This is my favorite Troma movie for a few reasons, although it is not for everyone. You should know a bit about Troma going in, as this movie is full of in references to the production of (real) independent films.
Nods to switching actors mid-production and constant reminders that movie-set safety should always be the highest priority are all over this film and if you know nothing about Troma and how they work, those references will fly over your head, At the same time, because the movie is about the production of a Toxic Avenger movie, on the set of which a serial killer is stalking the crew, it serves just as well as an introduction to the world of Troma.
The real genuis of the movie reveals itself towards the end, when this insane parody-style movie reveals itself to have a backstory more twisted than almost anything you see coming out of hollywood.
