Review of Ten Canoes (2006) by James C — 12 Oct 2007
Ten Canoes is the sort of movie that your local art-house cinema will play on a loop, continually for years and years.
To slow and languid to keep Joe public away, Ten Canoes is a breath of fresh air, but a surprisingly familiar one in it's use of flashback within flashback techniques.
Similar to The Cave of the Yellow Dog and The Story of the Weeping Camel in that you spend 90 minutes with a culture many have never, nor will see.
Beautiful, rare cinema, Ten Canoes should be embraced for attempting to tell such a simple story through the eyes of a different people.
