Review of Ten (2002) by Alfin N — 28 Dec 2009
One of the great films of its decade, Ten reveals a side of Iran too little seen in the West: her women and children. Kiarostami engages in what can only be termed a formal experiment, crafting his film around 10 separate conversations between a woman in her car and her passengers.
The result is a masterpiece of the cinema: thin narrative threads emerge, but more importantly, thematic exploration on the issues related to women in modern society: marriage, sex, parenting, and prayer.
Brilliant.
