Review of Teenage Zombies (1959) by Michelle V — 30 May 2009
Another B-film directed at the younger audiences that filled drive-ins and theatres, whose thriller potential starts out strong and intense with a creepy, intense open score but quickly fizzles as the action and story dawdle around the sets.
The young characters are dumb and unintentionally cruel (the boys leave the girls trapped in a cage while they slink away safely), and the adults play along complacently with the story and the kidsâ?? actions.
It is only at the end in which a hilarious struggle eventually ensues, releasing the comic potential of the film (and an angry gorilla only seals the deal).
