Review of Suburra (2015) by Sam K — 26 Mar 2016
Movie of the Month: Suburra.
After many years of lying dormant, Italian cinema has produced a masterpiece. A dark, psychological thriller that involves Politicians, high-class hookers, The Pope, Mafia, local gangsters and property developers in a suburb of Rome. There are no heroes in this apocalyptic vision of modern society. The drama is gritty, and the cast fits the narrative like a twisted glove. The violence is taut, and a lot of threats are implied. The music is a mix of euro electronica and builds the atmospherics. This may be Italy's candidate for a movie of the caliber of The Godfather. Worth a watch. At 130+ minutes, this piece of work will keep you captivated.
