Review of Still Bill (2010) by Chris B — 05 Mar 2011
A great documentary about a great man & artist. If I have one gripe with it, it's that probably the best question that's asked of him is not answered. At least not directly. Cornel West asked Bill what he wanted his legacy to be, and there is no response.
Either Bill is not sure what he wants his legacy to be, or we are left to discern that ourselves by watching the rest of the film. Trouble is, I can't decide whether he wants his legacy to be his music or the lessons he teaches his children.
If I can't figure it out, maybe he can't either. Or maybe, it's both.
