Review of Spun (2003) by Candy S — 26 May 2009
Excellent movie. A refreshing look at the lives of those who are troubled, both with addictions and life. This movie makes you feel like you are one of these cranked characters watching as their lives are spun out of control.
Those who say that this movie lacks depth did not pay enough attention. The main character, Ross (an excellent performance by Jason Schwartzman), is constantly battling with the social, physical, and monetary problems that come along with the territory of speed addiction.
Also, a touching and thought-provoking ending with Mikey Rourke's character, the Cook, adds to the somehow satisfying tragedy of the characters' lives. Probably the most satisfying ending you will ever see in a movie, and you'll think you're crazy that you're happy for these characters at the end.
Spun will make you not know how to feel about its resolution, and you'll be okay with it.
