Review of Solace (2006) by Ellie W — 27 Jul 2016
Griffin's script is fresh, but falls just short of being good. It is flawed and far fetched, lacking style and fluidity whilst trying to be too many things instead of only itself. The cinematic elements are, in some parts, well crafted but as a whole, just don't work together.
The cinematography proves to be quirky with clever use of representation of the story, however this becomes completely diminished by the use of unnecessary rapid zoom ins. They make me extremely uncomfortable.
The soundtrack and sound design are much the same, proving to be far too much and hence, tacky and lacking finesse. Potbrings us from 'Mozart' to 'Meatloaf' as I break into a cold sweat, unsure of exactly how to feel about this film.
The contrast between 'art house indie' and 'mainstream Hawaii 5-0' is just too much to me to follow.
