Review of Smithereens (1982) by Frances B — 06 Aug 2007
I was drawn to this film because of the string of names behind it (the feelies, richard hell, susan seidelman). it's wonderfully shot & iconic in its costume and colour, but these positives are established in the first 30 minutes and the film doesn't have great acting or a great plot to fall back on (rather, it focuses too much on various incidents that are meant to be great/shocking because of the lifestyle).
I enjoyed how seidelman contrasted wren's lifestyle with the norm/the outside, but overall the film relies too much on its names (richard hell) to be amazing.
