Review of Shot in the Heart (2001) by Zoran S — 13 Sep 2008
This is an excellent and well-acted film that was initially done for HBO. Itâ??s the story of Gary Gilmore, based on the book of his brother Mikal. I havenâ??t seen, or read for that matter, The Executionerâ??s Song so I donâ??t know how this version of the story compares, but I suspect itâ??s probably less melodramatic having some familiarity with Norman Mailer.
Agnieszka Holland does a nice job of mixing the story of Gilmoreâ??s family life, with ethical concerns over the death penalty, as well as, surprisingly, a subtext about the supernatural and religious vengeance.
