Review of Sexy Beast (2001) by Gavin R — 22 Mar 2008
I don't recall a mob-heist movie in recent history that convinces the viewer of the brutality of the characters so well, without an onslaught of meaningless violence. Ben Kingsley is absolutely brilliant as the British mobster who is truly the anti-Ghandi, a man who really doesn't take no for an answer.
Ray Winston is thoroughly convincing, as the ex-hiester just trying to lead a normal life. The score is hypnotizing and is a character unto itself. I find myself watching this movie again and again, picking up on subtle directorial queues or character mannerisms.
You won't find another mob movie that puts the fear into you just watching a character talking to a flight attendant.
