Review of Self Medicated (2005) by Robin M — 15 Sep 2007
I give this guy 100 percent credit for getting a film off of the ground. It's hard these days if you aren't some money powerhouse. Aside from that, I found the move to be completely forced, like some horrible after school special.
It was predictable, very slow, and Lapica obviously glorified himself to stroke his ego (and did even more at the Q&A). He was very unbelievable as a 17 year old, and really the only good acting came from Diane Venora, Michael Bowen and Greg Germann.
Yes, this movie was based on a true story, but the director himself admitted to fabricating parts of it to make it 'interesting.' But to me, it seemed like he added all of this extra stuff (the genius IQ, the MacGyver type escape, etc) to make him look more 'hard.
' Not a very good movie to say the least.
