Review of Savate (1995) by Arnaud L — 27 Jun 2009
The original concept has a lot of potential but the film ends up very flat. A lot of people are to blame. The scriptwriter first who can not find anything else than organising a vale tudo tournament in the far west (isn't there smarter ways to set up martial fights??).
The casting director second. Ian Ziering as a farmer? Ashley Laurence as a conservative country girl?? Marc Singer (in full over acting mode) as a powerfull german fighter??? And finally, Isaac Florentine who imitate the JCVD style of action for the usual lackluster result.
I would like to see him get back at the subject now he masters action much better.
