Review of Satya (1998) by Benjamin Z — 13 Aug 2011
From director Ram Gopal Varma comes one of his best films,an awesome Mumbai gangland epic. Satya is an Everyman who arrives in the big bad city of Mumbai and falls in with the wrong crowd, ultimately landing up in jail.
There,a gang boss takes a shine to him and, back outside,Satya becomes the city's premier fixer and hitman. The film is a raw yet glamorized window into the Mumbai underworld and spawned many imitations.
The whole cast is excellent, with J.D. Chakravarthi as Satya, but is Manoj Bajpai who steals the show as the gang boss who hires Satya.Another face of the Mafia, this time from India. A super gangster film !
