Review of Santa Claus (1959) by Stephen K — 11 Dec 2007
There's nothing like a children's Christmas movie featuring the lines "He's going to murder you! He's going to murder you!".
But seriously, they should have stuck with the original title 'Santa v. Satan' (I kid you not). At least it provides some idea of what to suspect from this film. It's not a good movie -- far too B and, in some ways, creepy (read: demonically laughing mechanical reindeer), to bring children holiday cheer. It is not, however, on the absolute lowest tier of bad movies -- it is watchable, and oddly entertaining sometimes.
Also, it was riffed on one of the very best MST3K episodes ever, so definitely check that out. ["Santa's laughter mocks the poor," "He enjoys pantaloons more than he should," "Oh, I forgot France! Oh well!" etc., etc.].
