Review of Salaam Bombay! (1988) by Adam K — 29 Nov 2008
A cornerstone for the cinema of india, this is a gripping and realistic portrayal of the harsh life of bombay street kids. focusing on the topics of abandonment, underage prostitution and drug addiction, it focuses its energy at showing you that there are places in this world that are far from paradise.
the acting is superb, especially since its star is a real life street kid. mira nair's storytelling is powerful, and her directing is fantastic. although at times, its slows its pace down, any approach is taken for the right reasons.
this is not the happiest experience you will have watching a film, but its one that is true and real, leaving you with a touch of knowledge on how harsh the world can sometimes, if not often be.
