Review of Saint Judy (2018) by Elliecaplan — 06 Mar 2019
Sean Hanish’s Saint Judy is a well-captured film based on a true story of an immigration lawyer Judith Wood. Judy moves to Los Angeles for the opportunity to fight for the legal rights of immigrants seeking asylum in the United States.
Soon enough though, she realizes trying to grant asylum to these individuals is an uphill battle because our legal system has its odds against them. Judy is given a client named Asefa who is a young school teacher from Afghanistan and is inspired to work for her rights and the rights of other immigrants.
This film is the story of a hardworking lawyer who selflessly dedicates her life to save these immigrants and alter the foundation of our court system so that these immigrants are treated justly in the future, which made it so inspiring for me to watch.
