Review of Runoff (2015) by Manhattanpauper — 10 Aug 2015
Saw this film on the festival circuit and delighted that it is playing in theaters. It's quite uncommon to see such strong performance across the board. From lead, Joanne Kelly to the compromised farmer played by veteran character actor Tom Bower- there is authenticity and nuance in each role.
The pacing is complex - it at once reflects the bucolic environs, giving the viewer space and manages to build tension in an organic way, ratcheting things up bit by bit. The film is allegorical. It contains motifs and metaphor that extend far beyond its subject matter.
In a world of tent pole remakes, "Runoff" delivers something fresh. A must see - definitely worth checking out on the big screen.
