Review of Rubber (2010) by Alexa R — 16 Jul 2012
Among a slew of blockbusters and romantic comedies, Rubber is as original as it gets in this day in age. There is literally no reason, no purpose, and no point to it. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon it by chance and ended up laughing through the entire thing, and ended up talking about it for an hour afterwards. It is whimsical, dark, and entertaining. They even gave personality to "Robert". There were points where I would relate him to many film serial killers; the still, strange moments of dark thoughts were easily identified.
The concept of the Spectators and the strangeness of a few deaths near the end reminded me of Chuck Palahniuk's "Haunted".
A delight.
