Review of Robin Williams: Weapons of Self Destruction (2009) by Joe E — 05 Aug 2010
Robin Williams first stand-up concert in seven years, huh? Well, I saw this event when it aired on HBO. Let me tell you this. . .Robin Williams, you are a funny man, however, your act is completely unoriginal and ripped off almost all of your jokes from the most recent Dana Carvey HBO special.
I respect you as an artist and stand-up comedian, but your older material is funnier and much more original. I felt that this particular outing was like watching Dana Carvey: Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies (except Dana Carvey was much much better).
Will there be a few laughs while you watch? Yes, there most certainly will. My point is that the material was not yours. If you're going to do a new stand-up special, write your own material. Don't rip it off from a fellow comedian.
