Review of Rize (2005) by Rachel H — 22 Sep 2007
David LaChapelle's Compelling, Important, Real, Beautiful film. Watch the Vids on flixter movies. This movie captured me heart and soul. Its about street dance and life on the mean streets of L.A. told by members of the street dance clubs themselves.
LaChapelle was intrigued by some of the dancer he saw while directing Christina Aguleria's Dirrty music video. This led him on a 3 year journey documenting the dancers in their evolving art and dance movement right on the streets of Hawthorn, Compton, and South Central Los Angeles.
What he captures is not only some of the greatest dance sequences ever filmed, but also some of the most inspiring and uplifting life stories brought to a documentary.
