Review of Ritual in Transfigured Time (1946) by Justin S — 25 Jul 2007
What a beautiful little film. The early Bunuel, Man Ray and Duchamp films do nothing for me, honestly. But this film moves me very much. I imagine seeing it on the big screen with the right music would be kind of euphoric.
Deren is definately in her own league, though, it's unfair to compare her to the well known surrealists or dadists. "Meshes of the Afternoon" is fantastic too, probably her most notable film, but this is better.
They're both on YouTube, watch them!
