Review of Rhinoceros (1974) by Jonathan S — 19 Jan 2012
I never saw the play, but what a bizarre little movie. I mean this in the best possible sense of the word. This film is very odd. The writing is withholding, the direction is incomprehensible, and the cinematography is beyond confining.
..but that's what made me love it so. If you are looking for a Mel Brook's style follow up to the Producers...look elsewhere. This work is one of a kind, so check all of your expectations at the door and be sure to keep an open mind to "the weird" because in this case it is absolutely wonderful.
Although Rhinoceros left me somewhat frustrated and scratching my head in confusion, overall I can't deny just how funny this film really is. Seriously people, this forgotten gem is truly hilarious.
