As fascinating as Red Army is about diving into the sports obsessed, industrialized and deeply controlling world of Soviet sport, it takes on added resonance by all that's happened since, as the Old Guard of that Red Army now provide Putin with the leadership for his own new/old sports program.
Can history repeat? Probably not, as the documentary itself suggests, but timeliness gives Red Army a resonance that goes beyond retelling old war stories of Cold War Hockey.
