Review of Rawhead Rex (1986) by James O — 29 Jul 2011
RawHead rex is a great film that almos never gets he respect it so rightfully deserves. I believe it was the first film to be made that was based on a Clive Barker story (from the Books of Blood Vol. 3) and Barker even wrote the screenplay.
The writing and acting are surprisingly good, but then again, this was made by Empire Pictures, who have released some of the most well-made low budget movies ever. The one thing I dislike is how Rawhead Rex looks.
For an example of this, remember the Giant Claw? Rawhead Rex has the same thing going for him. he's pretty cool, in a ridiculous sort of way. I was amazed at how well it follows the chain of events in the story, even though some of the characters' names have changed, and they added a scene where Rawhead terrorizes the residents of a trailer park.
I's all bloody good fun, even if the ending is extremely stereotypical.
