Review of Rango (2011) by Jack B — 26 Jun 2013
The Best animated film of 2011, finally something challenges and, that year, outdoes Pixar. Rango is astonishingly animated but the real reason it is so excellent is how it pays tribute the cinema in its many forms.
The references are smart, the script brings in layers of meaning but constantly lets its hair down so as not to estrange the kids. The characters and art direction are distinctive and the score is obscure.
Rango is an oddity that is beautiful and a film that can please anyone, featuring committed vocal performances, thanks to the fact the actors not only spoke but acted out their scenes.
