Review of Ragamuffin (2014) by Alex F — 05 Aug 2014
This isn't your typical, one sided, cheesy Christian movie. This is a real hard look at the life of a man who many regard as one of Christian music's best song writers. He had a lot of struggles with loneliness, rejection and never feeling accepted by his father or even others around him.
He drank a lot, smoked a lot, wasn't Mr. Holy like some like to view him. Yet, through that pain and struggle, he wrote some of the deepest, most sincere lyrics you can hear in any song. He always believed in God and knew Him as his savior, but never really had peace until late in his short life.
It is a long movie, and yes, some parts drag, but overall, the acting is really good and Michael Koch is amazing; he sounds a lot like Rich Mullins when he sings. You get a non-glossy look at a messed up life that God used to make some beautiful art with.
Definitely worth watching.
