Review of R-Point (2004) by Dan D — 08 Oct 2006
Creepy but not actually terrifying, r-point is an atmospheric korean chiller set in the vietnam war. actually the basic premise is pretty similar to deathwatch - the whole innocence thing - but the film is let down by its dialogue. not sure if it's a translation problem or just a rubbish script, but in the english subtitles every second word seems to be dickhead, which gets tedious now and then. as a result of the characters all speaking the same way, and not saying anything interesting, you find yourself not caring, and that's a shame because the ending would work so much better if there was more of a psychology behind it, beyond the power sparring between the two senior officers.
Maybe the japanese will remake it. we can live in hope :D.
