Review of Princess Cyd (2017) by Tim M — 29 Mar 2018
There are few movies with the realism that 'Princess Cyd' has. These are authentic characters who you could 100% meet in day-to-day life. Stephen Cone (who wrote, directed, and produced) shoots his subject's flaws and facial reactions to perfection.
The actors are almost all relative unknowns, but it goes to show there are plenty of people who can act out there especially with the right material. Coming of age stories have been done hundreds on times, but Cyd (Jessie Pinnick in her first feature film) is going through what most teenagers (she's 16) go through sexually.
Cone captures all of his characters in such a relatable way, it almost comes off as a documentary. You feel like you're spying on real life. This is a hidden gem that is well worth the 96 minutes.
Final Score: 8.4/10.
