Review of Powwow Highway (1989) by Master Xi-Ying W — 14 Feb 2013
This is all the things "Smoke Signals" wishes it could be but can't, with just the right blend of funny, farce, and fury. There are car chases, shoot outs, safe robberies, and Cheyenne spiritualism all rolled together to teach us a lesson about love, loyalty, and friendship.
What's also nice about this film is that it actually features some RLIs (Real-Live Indian actors) for a change, not just some White guys in black wigs. Indian stereotypes are quickly dispatched with humour and humanity, and there is very little preaching or "White-Guilt-Tripping.".
