Review of Paterson (2016) by Steve P — 29 Dec 2016
'Paterson' is that charming, slice of life movie that only comes along in a rare while. Both tender and introspective, as well as plenty humorous in parts, it examines the psyche of the artist in such a way that few films dare to.
By now, Jarmusch has cemented his legacy for creating stimulating, deliberately plotted filmmaking that captures the mind and the heart. He does so to great extent with this movie. Adam Driver gives a career best performance here as do the supporting cast members who all equally shine and lend their own presence to the tale.
Lookout for a memorable cameo by Wu Tang Clan's Method Man as well who contributes his own original spoken word work to the film. The movie is gorgeously shot with interesting use of double exposure and time lapses, too.
If ever you wanted your heart truly warmed, this is the film for you. Its pace may be delicate and slow but the emotional payoffs are big. Go see it!
