Review of Pardes (1997) by Tamara S — 09 Feb 2008
It was a good movie, but I hate how there are no subtitles. it made following along difficult. there were some funny parts to this, but it was mostly sad cuz theres alot of family violence in this movie-both from rajiv and ganga's dad.
what irks me most about indian movies is that they portray women as defenseless and weak-willed (ie, ganga cries alot when she should be fighting back). its strange that I havent been able to figure this out, even though I did a report recently about indian movies and the stuff behind them.
other then the violence stuff, the music was pretty good (mere piya, and yeh dil), and all the actors did a good job-even that backtabbing 'auntie'.
