Review of Pappa ante Portas (1991) by Michael B — 13 Aug 2008
It is the second, the last and the best movie of Loriot. If you are not german: he is a genius and one of the few german directors who is REALLY funny. After a lot of TV-shows during the 70s and 80s he made two movies in the mid eighties and this one from 1991.
Loriot has the talent to watch peoples everday struggle and quirls and to bring this in a perfect way into his comedian work. The jokes hit the point 100 %, and you can watch his stuff over and over again and will still have a laugh.
He is very very popular in germany for good reasons (I think todays comedies from germany mostly are crap) and his quotes are classics in germany in a way british people quote "Little Britain".
I think it is necessairy to speak at least a little german to catch the humour, and if you have the chance to see this movie somewhere, do not miss it!
