Review of Paper Heart (2009) by Ben S — 05 Mar 2010
The little charmer of an indie (SPOILER) mockumentary that could. If this is your introduction to Charlyne Yi, the first thing u ask is "How old is she?!?" followed by "Really?!?" when u find out she's 24. She exudes the wide-eyed innocence thing so well you think you're watching a teenager ask real-life friends and couples about love and if it exists, almost like it's a high-school film project.
Micheal Cera is still playing a variation of George Michael Bluthe, but more relaxed and confident. (Hmm, make that the opposite of George Michael).
Fact and fiction are mixed so well it was hard to tell one from the other, and I liked how the real-life(?) couples had their stories dramatized by cardboard cutouts and tinfoil puppets.
I guessed the ending incorrectly, for w/c I was glad coz at least it shows this film wasn't predictable. (It isn't, and I daresay you won't be able to guess the ending, either.).
