Review of Oslo, August 31st (2011) by Ola S — 26 Nov 2011
A 34-year-old comes out of rehab and arrives in Oslo. The city and the people he's met and will meet are catalysators for his old life and the life which is to begin. If there is any. Even without drugs.
A mean way of criticism is saying that an actor has only two expressions. That goes for Anders Danielsen Lie here, but it is a compliment, because he's rather splendid. Nakedness in his face, perfect so called timing and a feeling that he's being teared apart. Life, the normal one and the irregular one, can't be handled. Oslo is not physical threat, but it has no mercy.
It's not a film which gives you sleepless nights, but director Joachim Trier has something going on. Into and out of Oslo.
