Review of Operator (2016) by John K — 08 Dec 2016
A surprisingly dark and raw dramedy that touches on the immersive role technology plays in society. The performances make this film, as Mae Whitman is unapologetically human while, juxtaposed with her, Martin Starr as the protagonist is fascinating as a character who likely resides somewhere on the autism spectrum.
Moreover, Kibens employs an odd directing style to take you inside the head of the protagonist in interesting ways. While the ending is a bit cliche and melodramatic, it doesn't change the fact that the film is a heartfelt experience.
