Review of Nostalgia (2018) by Adam M — 06 Sep 2018
Oh man there is like a half hour of good movie in here. When we finally get to the story about Jon Hamm and Catherine Keener, the movie gets really good for a bit. They have such brilliant chemistry as brother and sister, and Keener gives a truly heartbreaking performance.
I was so charmed by the two of them. But the rest of the movie is a rambling mess that expects the audience to deeply care about characters we've just met, and feel sentimentality towards objects we've never seen.
It's like writer/director Mark Pellington had a good idea for a short film, but for some reason felt pressured to make a feature. So he slapped on a bunch of useless nonsense to pad out the runtime to two hours.
