Review of Nostalgia (1983) by Anna R — 10 Dec 2008
So I finally re-watched it today. I have to say that although I prefer "Stalker" to this film, "Nostalghia" is nevertheless an exquisite Tarkovsky classic. I believe that the main message it bears is that one can not save the world with "a candle", and yet if we don't carry our candles, all light in this world will cease.
Very philosophical, very spiritual, and multi-layered. I had a nice discussion with my mum after watching this, we compared our interpretations of Tarkovsky allegories and discovered a bunch of different meanings one can derive from it.
Thought-provoking stuff. Love it.
