Review of Nostalgia (1983) by Dan H — 25 Apr 2009
Tarkovsky's films may seem somewhat obscure at times, but their pacing and visuals are without compare. The attention to detail glows through every scene. Tarkovsky successfully marries cinema to art. 'Nostalghia' fully deserves today's over-used accolade of 'masterpiece.' Interesting to see that Erland Josephson ('The Sacrifice' and Ingmar Bergman's confidante) appears again.
If even 1% of the incompetents who make films these days were able to make films like these we would all be richer for the experience.
On the Artificial Eye DVD there is a lengthy 'making of' documentary which is illuminating, particularly in the search for location.
