Review of My Lucky Star (2013) by Karl M — 21 Sep 2013

My Lucky Star is about Sophie (Ziyi Zhang), a woman who lives a humdrum life at a boring office job. She dreams of starring in one of the adventure comics she often draws and submits to contests, until one day she wins a 5 day trip to Singapore.

Along the way, she meets a suave super spy and gets into all sort of hilarious hijinks while trying to get a giant diamond and stop some villains. The movie's tone is very lively and fun, and this romantic comedy is a lot of fun.

The only part I didn't like is that the tone was never serious, and that throws tension out the window. It is supposed to be a madcap spy comedy caper, but its simple entertainment and nothing more.
